An Azkals-Puma Concept

For the past two days, I’ve studied Puma’s designs. Mostly the Italy kits. I’ve incorporated their designs for possible Philippine NT kits. I’ve realized that the more recent Puma kits are minimalist, a wee bit close to Umbro’s new national team design for England.

Here’s my study for the Philippine home kit. Blue-white-blue scheme and I added the red trim to highlight the kit more. Blue and red from the Philippine flag. There’s a light stripe on the chest with a sweat pattern, for all the hard work the team has done and the “masipag” attitude of the Filipino people as a whole.

As you can see, I applied the new Puma Gaffer tape typeface. The collar is reminiscent of the camisa de chino, one of the traditional clothes in the Philippines.

Here’s how it looks from the back. The sweat pattern is much bigger.

Here’s the away design which I based from the kits used in the Malaysia-Philippines friendly last 1 June 2011. I didn’t used the red coloured letters/numbers. I prefered to use red as a stripe, to further highlight it.

Here’s how it looks from the back.

Tell me what you think and hopefully I can make better designs.

Again, here’s hoping for more glory for our national team. Viva Azkals!

Puma the new supplier for the Azkals?

The official Twitter account of the national team has uploaded a photo ahead of tonight’s Malaysia-Philippines friendly. Here was the photo:

Probably it’s temporary, a one time thing, or maybe a partnership deal is on its way. We can’t be sure.

Puma is a worldwide high-end brand and it can be good for commercialisation and popularisation of the Azkals. Good for national pride as well to have a good brand sponsoring the national team’s efforts.

Design-wise, for me, Puma’s designs are always bold (Except for the one above, which is rather very drab and simple). I believe it takes artistic experience for one to appreciate Puma’s designs. I’m a fan of Nike’s designs but I also admire Puma’s always.

In Puma-related news, although a bit late, Puma have launched the new Gaffer typeface. It was used for African nations wearing the Puma outfit and is also going to be used for Italy this coming Euro 2012. Oh, how I love it. It’s so classy. Here’s some samples…

Here’s another one. On Balotelli (even though I loathe him)

With the new Gaffer typography, Puma has launched its “Make Football Anywhere” campaign which promotes grass roots football which will be good for domestic and youth football here in the Philippines. Here’s a teaser poster I made for our country:

I really hope Puma becomes the Azkals official supplier. Nike, pwede din. HAHA!

Until then, here’s hoping more progress for our national team! GO AZKALS!

Happy Birthday Chicharito!

I have reserved this post for Man United’s one and only, the number 14, Javier Hernandez who turns 24 today.

I wanted to make a special mention for this lad because he’s truly a wonderful man. Coming from Mexico to Old Trafford is like a dream, like one of those football fairy tales. Just 2 years in the United outfit and he has already made a name for himself. He is a great partner to my favourite man Rooney.

Most of all, despite his achievements, he still remains humble which is truly admirable.

And he is very religious, a follower of Islam, if I’m not mistaken. I’m no Muslim, I’m a devout Christian but I truly admire him because he is God fearing.

Happy birthday, Chicharito!

“I mean, God bless The Notebook, it introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that.” — Ryan Gosling about Rachel McAdams (via dreamerdrea)
